Ruth has been Coordinator of Edinburgh Carers Council, an independent advocacy service for unpaid carers, since 2007 and has worked in the Third Sector in Edinburgh for thirty eight years. She has a social work and advocacy background, both in mental health.

She is also a trained counselling supervisor and has served on Management Boards at Wellspring, Health in Mind and Lothian Council on Alcohol

​

She enjoys writing, walking and being with her three grandchildren.
